Fiona Apple
"Days like this, I don't know what to do with myself all day and all night. I wander the halls along the walls and under my breath I say to myself I need fuel to take flight.

And there's too much going on, but it's calm under the waves, in the blue of my oblivion, under the waves in the blue of my oblivion.

Is that why they call me a sullen girl."

Fiona Apple on the show ‘H-Man’ and a conversation with director Joseph Cahill Friday, March 28, 2014

Translated from portuguese

Singer Fiona Apple is one of the attractions of the television series ‘H-Man’  director Joseph Cahill on a lazy superhero ready to rid Europe of an apocalyptic threat appears on the French channel Arte during the months March and April. (Second episode)

How you met Fiona Apple?

Joseph Cahill: Fiona is an old childhood friend. Her sister was the “good-looking” schoolgirl, we were about eight years of age, and she was Fiona’s little sister. Later, I found her again in high school and she had became a beautiful and intriguing girl. After that, we lost contact and I liked the new singer called Fiona Apple and had no connection with the girl I knew.

I realized it was her, years later when contacted to make music with the French singer Arthur H which is H-Man ‘for a science fiction movie I have not done.

And the participation of Apple as happened in the series?
Joseph Cahill: Fiona and I kept in touch since then and she asked me to direct the video for “Every Single Night” . I asked her to come to Paris and participate with a small role in ‘H-Man’. I know she made a funny song [ “Come On and Get It (Up in ‘Dem Guts)” ] with actor Zach Galifinakis, so I thought she would agree to it, and she did.

People do not realize, but Fiona has a great sense of humour. They understand it the wrong way and think she is depressed or something. The truth is that she’s fucking funny.

How did the recording go?
Joseph Cahill: Super fast and actually a part of the music video for “Every Single Night” was used in post-production. It is like the relationship of George Lucas with Jar-Jar Binks. She never met any of the other actors. Fiona Apple is my Jar Jar Binks. I like to think so.

And the character? It is a German?
Joseph Cahill: The Bio-Frau ‘is an eco-terrorist who heads the German plants singing for them. Fiona is part of nature and beautiful places, trees, plants, hashish, and she definitely controls people with her voice. Then everything seemed to fit.

She did not complain when asked to speak in German. In hindsight, it is much better than Jar Jar Binks, I was afraid that her accent could provoke a reaction in Germany. I’ll need to wait and see…

1996-09-10 Live troubadour (w hollywood)

Pale September, I wore the time like a dress that year
The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on my skin
But as the embers of the summer lost their breath and disappeared
My heart went cold and only hollow rhythms resounded from within
But then he rose, brilliant as the moon in full
And sank in the burrows of my keep

And all my armour falling down, in a pile at my feet
And my winter giving way to warm, as I’m singing him to sleep

He goes along just as a water lily
Gentle on the surface of his thoughts his body floats
Unweighed down by passion or intensity
Yet unaware of the depth upon which he coasts
And he finds a home in me
For what misfortune sows, he knows my touch will reap

And all my armour falling down, in a pile at my feet
And my winter giving way to warm, as I’m singing him to sleep
